I figured that a “Wonderland” themed party would attract dozens of Alices, mad hatters, white rabbits, queens of hearts, and caterpillars, so I decided to stand out by dressing up as the most nondescript character possible: an arbitrary playing card. The costume: silk appliques on a smart white shirt, over a pair of red corduroy pants I made ages ago, and a pair of white canvas loafers. The shirt glowed gloriously under blacklight.
